What can’t be missing from your Independent Contractor’s Agreement?

From time to time, entrepreneurs would hire virtual assistance, web designer, publicist, etc. based on their line of work. It is essential to have a signed contract with each one of them so both parties know what to expect and how to.

– What are they going to do for you?: What are their services? what are they going to do for you? Mention all tasks they should perform.

– How long is the contract for? Establish a deadline. It can be as vague as “after ending X tasks”, a specific date or week duration. It actually does not matter how long; it matters you say so.

– Be sure you explain they will not get employee’s benefits: Explain the contractor’s tatus. Be sure it says they will always remain an independent contractor. By doing this, you will not be held responsible for paying insurance or providing employee’s benefits. ⠀

– What is their compensation? Include amount of payment and also the form of payment (hour, week, month, etc.). Also mention who is responsible for expenses incurred while working for you. ⠀

⠀⠀

– Who does the Intellectual Property belong to?: When hiring someone, even an independent contractor, most people do not even think about this and it is the most important thing to take into account. If you do not say anything about this, they could actually claim as their own everything they do for you.

⠀⠀

– Explain consequences: As much as we want every relation to work, things can happen, and you do not want to be held liable.
