What is the Nice classification?

It is an international classification system that is used to determine in which class a trademark goes, depending on the products or services of interest. It has been modified through the years, that is why some products and services were reclassified.

By applying this classification, all the countries, have the same system. This means that a trademark in class 7, for example, protects the same products when it is applied in a different country, that applies this classification.

The classification introduces 34 classes for products and 11 classes for services. If you follow this link, you will go into the WIPO’s official website WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), where you will have access to the products and services and determine in which class your trademark goes: https://www.wipo.int/classifications/nice/nclpub/en/fr/.
